By Tom Bilsborow - President of Haywire

Before starting Haywire, I formed a desire to help companies grow.

This desire grew substantially once I had developed an acute problem solving skillset throughout my engineering career, which was primarily formed exploring startup ideas and working at Tesla. Something time and experience grants to anyone seeking it.

Companies in early developments and scaling stages, such as pre-Seed, Seed or Series A, are very exciting. The risk of failure pressures the need for excellence and urgency to action which is incredibly motivating and very rewarding to be apart of. This is in the fabric of Haywire.

Helping early-stage companies develop and scale in the product development space was the combination I recognized that maximized value for an engaging company and my own fulfillment. A great combo. This was the sweet spot I needed to realize before launching Haywire.

So, what makes Haywire different from all the other engineering and product development companies that are out there? Here are some fantastic reasons to choose Haywire for your next project.

Education

Above all else, I want to educate companies about the technology I am developing for them. Typically, companies do not have expertise in the areas we are providing for. That is the primary reason we are initially engaged with. We become the immediate technology experts and this is a model that is not sustainable. That expertise needs to be transferred to our customers to enable product iteration, support and sustainment.

The education vehicle differs depending on what customers prefer, but the outcome is consistent. Enough information is provided, explained and reasoned in the simplest form to convey the technology being architecture, designed and prototyped.

We help companies hire engineers, whether in the form of sourcing talent, conducting interviews, technical audits or roundtables, to sustain initial projects developed by Haywire. We have seen great success in this and aim to continually improve moving forward.

Real Savings

Our team has invested time to quantify the true saving companies will see with our engagement. Savings are not only related to immediate working efficiencies, predefined design elements or seasoned experience but also relieving valuable senior talent who can pursue future opportunities within the companies we serve. This fosters overall company growth and provides measurable impact.

An early-stage company with a $20M valuation target and 10 employees, which has not yet performed a hardware design, who engages with Haywire for a typical PCB controller or enclosure will save 80% over that same hardware being developed internally. A company with a $30M valuation and 20 employees who have hardware development tools already in place will save 60%.

We have developed a formal document, which is detailed, that will be provided upon request. Please reach out if interested.

Rapid Development

I schedule our workload at Haywire to allow for immediate kickoff of projects. No matter the size. I also don’t over commit to workload and prioritize the companies we are working with over new companies looking for help. This all helps to get projects done faster.

Working autonomously is a strong tenant to rapid development. We do not require handholding and can meet on any schedule or medium desired.

Additionally, we have automated much of our internal design process across our very tight team. This allows for the shortest feedback path possible between design requirements, system architecture, component design and prototyping.

We are focussed 100% on the project at hand. There are no internal distractions or any opportunity for priority changes. This focus is hard to duplicate for an early-stage company and translates to a 60% saving in development time.

No Term Commitments

I find setting the expectation for a term commitment is not fruitful for my customers or Haywire. If an engagement is moving forward and is adding value then it should continue to do so. If a customer pivots development direction, then I am not going to hold ransom.

This builds trust and places the duty on my team to perform and meet expectations. Bringing motivation and excellence to the projects we take part in.

Seasoned experience

I personally have built my own design instinct and knowhow from working alongside others with far more experience during my career. I have personally had heavy involvement within test engineering, power electronics, vehicle controller and compute PCB hardware, architecture and system design.

In addition to this, I have been involved with production and planning projects that required swift decision making under tight cost constraints with major business consequences. Nothing is off limits for what is possible.

Ultimately, Haywire is the best product development company to get your next product idea in front of investors.
